CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY
A 389-member body responsible for drafting India’s Constitution.

COMMITTEES
Committees were created by the Constituent Assembly comprising smaller groups of members delegated with various responsibilities.

Civil and judicial authorities to act in aid of the Supreme Court

All authorities, civil and judicial, in the territory of India shall act in aid of the Supreme Court.

Version 1

Article 120, Draft Constitution of India 1948

All authorities, civil and judicial, in the territory of India shall act in aid of the Supreme Court.

Version 2

Article 144, Constitution of India 1950

All authorities, civil and judicial, in the territory of India shall act in aid of the Supreme Court.

Summary

Draft Article 120 (Article 144) was debated in the Constituent Assembly on 27th May 1949. It stipulated that all civil authorities must act in aid of the Supreme Court.

The Draft Article was accepted without debate and adopted by the Assembly on 27th May 1949.
