CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY
A 389-member body responsible for drafting India’s Constitution.

COMMITTEES

Article 247

Power of Parliament to provide for the establishment of certain additional courts

Notwithstanding anything in this Chapter, Parliament may by law provide for the establishment of any additional courts for the better administration of laws made by Parliament or of any existing laws with respect to a matter enumerated in the Union List.

Notwithstanding anything in this Chapter, Parliament may by law provide for the establishment of any additional courts for the better administration of laws made by Parliament or of any existing law with respect to a matter enumerated in the Union List.

SUMMARY

Draft Article 219 (Article 247, Constitution of India 1950) was debated on 13 June 1949. It gave Parliament the power to establish additional courts for better administration of laws. There was no substantive debate on this Draft Article and it was adopted without amendment.
